New Utility Tractor Advice Needed 50-60hp - TractorByNet

I'm looking for a new tractor for our 10 acres - 3.5 in woods, 6.5 in pasture. Right now I have a 9N and am looking for something a little more capable. Mostly I will be using the new machine for hobby farm bushhogging, pulling logs out of the woods, moving hay bales, and other material handling.

I may at some point start doing my own hay - between my pastures and my neighbor's 10 or so acres in pasture. If I do, I think it will be with a square baler. I'm looking for an open-station tractor.

Where we live, we are fortunate to have a lot of good dealers within 20 minutes, including:
Deere
LS
Massey
Kioti
Mahindra
New Holland

I'd like to get a utility tractor with a loader in the 50-60hp range and try to stay around 30-35k - or less if possible... I'm leaning toward hydro transmission or the Deere power reverser.

Right now I'm looking at:
the Deere e and the m,
the Massey e,
the LS XU,
the Mahindra ,
and the Kioti NX.
The local Kubota dealer has blown me off both times I've stopped by, so I'm not currently considering them.

I prefer to buy American made/assembled/whatever if possible. But I am open to considering the Japanese, South Korean and Indian machines as well.

What I'm hoping you can help with is -
1. Are these tractors similar enough in intended use to be compared?
2. Am I missing an obvious contender?
3. I'm a new tractor novice - how the heck do I decide which one to buy?

Thanks. You aren't going to find an American "made" tractor in that H.P. range.Going to come down to "fit" for you and I am sure price.Lowest price doesn't mean the best tractor.Too bad the Kubota dealer blew you off, they make nice machines and I would have recommended the
MX line for your uses.I have looked at the Massey's and the quality there seems good( China built ?),never owned Kioti but they are a known quality machine
Haying requires numerous implements to produce good hay and often time is of the essence. You cannot hay on a 'weekend' basis and produce a consistent product.

However, many T-B-N contributors hobby farm with only the goal of breaking even. Make sure your partner with the larger piece of land agrees.

A 5,000 pound bare weight tractor begins the Utility Tractor class. If you are going to hay this is the right class of tractor.

Every new Utility Class tractor with a Loader can lift ~~2,400 pounds (+/-).

When considering a tractor purchase, bare tractor weight first, tractor horsepower second and (narrowly) rear wheel ballast third.

A quality dealer, reasonably close, available for coaching, is important for tractor neophytes. Most new tractors are delivered with a glitch or two requiring correction. My Kubota dealer is six miles away. I feel my local dealer continues to add value to my equipment after seven years. Dealer proximity is less important for those experienced with tractors and qualified to perform their own maintenance.

What tractor and equipment does your neighbor have?

VIDEO: So you want to TRADE UP for a new Tractor? - TMT - YouTube Thanks for the advice! I think all of the tractors mentioned are around that weight - probably not the m though.

The neighbor would let me use her land for no charge and wouldn't expect to be a partner in the financial sense. She just wants the hay mown without having to pay someone to do it. I don't expect to make money. In fact, I imagine it will be a loss most of the time. That´s okay.

Introduction

Selecting the right tractor for your farm is a critical decision that can significantly impact your productivity and efficiency. Among the various options available, a tractor with 50 horsepower and four-wheel drive (4WD) is often an excellent choice for small to medium-sized farms. This blog will guide you through the essential factors to consider when choosing the best tractor 50hp 4WD for your farming needs. We’ll explore the benefits, key features, and top models, and provide a comprehensive table to help you compare different options.

Understanding the Importance of 50hp 4WD Tractors

When it comes to farming, the power and versatility of your tractor play a crucial role in the success of your operations. A 50hp tractor is powerful enough to handle a wide range of tasks, from plowing and tilling to hauling and mowing. The addition of 4WD enhances the tractor’s performance by providing better traction on uneven or muddy terrain, making it ideal for diverse farming conditions.

Key Features to Look for in a Tractor 50hp 4WD

Engine Performance and Fuel Efficiency

One of the first aspects to consider is the engine’s performance. A tractor 50hp 4WD should have an engine that delivers reliable power while maintaining fuel efficiency. Look for tractors with engines that comply with the latest emission standards and offer a good balance between power output and fuel consumption.

Transmission Options

Tractors in this category typically come with either manual or hydrostatic transmissions. A manual transmission offers more control over the tractor’s power, which can be beneficial for tasks that require precision. On the other hand, hydrostatic transmissions are easier to operate and require less effort, making them ideal for long hours of work.

Hydraulic Capacity and Attachments Compatibility

The hydraulic system is another critical feature to examine. A robust hydraulic system ensures that the tractor can handle various attachments such as front loaders, backhoes, and mowers. Check the tractor’s hydraulic capacity to ensure it can support the attachments you plan to use.

Comfort and Ergonomics

Farmers spend long hours on their tractors, so comfort is a significant consideration. Look for a tractor 50hp 4WD that offers an adjustable seat, easy-to-reach controls, and a spacious cabin. Some models also come with air conditioning and other comfort-enhancing features.

Durability and Maintenance

A tractor is a long-term investment, so durability is essential. Opt for a tractor 50hp 4WD made from high-quality materials and backed by a strong warranty. Additionally, consider the ease of maintenance and availability of spare parts. A tractor that is easy to maintain will save you time and money in the long run.

4WD Tractors vs. 2WD Tractors

Benefits of Using a 50hp 4WD Tractor on Your Farm

Enhanced Traction and Stability

One of the primary advantages of a 4WD tractor is its superior traction. Whether you’re working on hilly terrain, muddy fields, or uneven ground, a 4WD system ensures that your tractor remains stable and doesn’t get stuck. This stability is especially crucial when performing tasks that require precision, such as planting or harvesting.

Versatility in Various Farming Tasks

A 50hp tractor is versatile enough to handle a wide range of farming tasks. From plowing fields to hauling heavy loads, this tractor can do it all. The 4WD feature further enhances its capability, allowing you to tackle tasks in challenging conditions that a 2WD tractor might struggle with.

Improved Productivity and Efficiency

With the power and traction provided by a 50hp 4WD tractor, you can complete your farming tasks more quickly and efficiently. This increased productivity means you can cover more ground in less time, ultimately leading to higher yields and better farm management.

How to Maintain Your Tractor 50hp 4WD

Regular Maintenance Practices

To keep your tractor running smoothly, regular maintenance is essential. This includes checking the oil levels, inspecting the tires, and cleaning the air filters. Regularly servicing your tractor according to the manufacturer’s guidelines will ensure it operates efficiently and prolong its lifespan.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

Even the most reliable tractors can encounter issues. Knowing how to troubleshoot common problems, such as engine overheating or hydraulic leaks, can save you time and money. Keep a maintenance log to track any issues and address them promptly.

Seasonal Care and Storage

Properly storing your tractor during the off-season is crucial to prevent damage. Make sure to clean your tractor thoroughly and store it in a dry, sheltered location. Additionally, consider using a tractor cover to protect it from dust and moisture.

Conclusion

Choosing the best tractor 50hp 4WD for your farm involves considering various factors, from engine performance to hydraulic capacity. By understanding the key features and comparing different models, you can make an informed decision that meets your farming needs. A 50hp 4WD tractor offers the power, versatility, and stability required to tackle a wide range of farming tasks, making it an excellent investment for your farm’s future.
